New T wants to work on coping skills. I know they are important but I don't just want to cope, I want to be back to normal.

coping skills are one of the tools for your toolbox to get you on the road back to "normal" unfortunately, healing takes time and it is so hard to be patient. be kind to yourself and allow yourself to heal. healing is a journey. trying to skip steps or speed up the process isn't going to make you feel better faster.

just my thoughts
Thanks for this!

Learning coping skills would be a great first step to getting things back to normal. In my mind I think that would be a key thing. Go for it.

Avoidance and listening to music are the only coping techniques I have right now. I don't know what else will work.

I just spent a week on vacation with my family and that is a whole bag of triggers right there. I had to go to my room to get away.

Everyone here is encouraging you to give coping skills a try. I'd like to add to that:

You mentioned your therapist is new, and that message was only a day ago. Rather than getting worked up over what you expect your therapist to do and all the ways in which it won't help, try to focus on how you can't possibly know yet what your therapist will do or how helpful it will be. It could very well be a huge help. And either way, you need to discuss how you feel with him (her?) so that he knows how to cater to your needs. Until then, it almost sounds like the assumptions of what your therapist wants to do are just become even more triggers.

You are right. A big part of this is the stress of switching therapists. I am freaking out a bit.
