Trying something new

Today I finally got the confidence to create an account here. I have finally come to terms with my depression. I also just need somewhere where I can talk to someone. My boyfriend is studying abroad in Ireland, I just started college where I know no one, just found out that my "best friend" was using me for money and free rides, and my parents are starting to think the worst from my disease. I constantly feel like I am being judged and stereotyped by my depression. I just need a place to go when I have been having a bad day and know that I will not be judged by the way I feel. I hope this is it.

Welcome to PC. I'm sorry to hear about your friend using you. I've had situations like that to. Human beings can certainly treat each other really badly. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or therapist?

I am currently seeing a counselor. My doctor says that the laid back environment of a counseling office will be better for me than a therapist or a psychiatrist.

welcome to the board, you are welcomed here and feel like a family member. welcome to PC. you don't need to feel bad about the stigma associated with mental illness. millions of people suffer from it and are broadly misunderstood because other people don't understand just like HIV was at one time a taboo subject to speak off. eventually i'm sure psychological conditions will become mainstream as more people come forward and will eventually be treated just like any other condition (diabetes, cancer and son on...).
