I was just inpatient for 11 days at a behavioral health center for major depression, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. It did really help but now I'm super behind in my school work. I can't handle the stress and pressure and just needed to vent. I am trying to use the coping skills I learned, but it isn't easy. Ahhh I am just so stressed. I feel like I can't do it. Inpatient

One step at a time. Breath. When I get in a panic and overwhelmed at work, I keep repeating to myself, "You only have to survive the next ten seconds." Supposedly, it's an old fighter pilot saying. Focus on the things that you can control now, overthinking the later stuff just gets in the way of this moment.

You CAN handle this. You just went through one of the hardest things in the world!! You chose to fight to live instead of choosing to die. THAT is hard. Very hard. You sought help when your brain is working against you (I know - I have been there).

Your homework may feel overwhelming at this moment - but it aint nothing compared to what you have already done. So as for the homework - do what you can and do not worry about the rest. Even if you fail a few things - you are still way ahead of where you could have been.

You ARE already successful! Congrats to you.
Thanks for this!

How's it going today? Any chance you could let your teachers/professors know that you are struggling right now and get some extensions to give you time to catch up?

I also agree with "i don't matter" above - you are so much further along for what you've fought for, yourself.

Sometimes you just need to take some time out, just relax and do nothing for a solid 30 min

Gosh, couldn't someone have brought you that while you were IN the hospital so you could have stayed current on it, so as not to get so far behind? Seems like it would have made more sense. Plus, you probably had lots of time to work on it while you were in there, no? Anyway, I agree, tell your teachers that this is really stressing you out trying to finish the work because your falling behind, and see if you can come to a more reasonable work schedule to turn it all in by. Or taLA to your therapist and tell them what's happening, and ask if they can write you some kind of doctor's note saying you need more time to finish it, as it's causing you to much stress and such a vulnerable time. Hope we've helped. Let us know.

I am a professor and I have severe recurrent MDD. I have almost gone to the hospital during the semester. If one of my students told me something like this, I would totally keep confidentiality and totally give them tons of time to make up the work.
