Hello & Welcome, Ashmeet20.

Does your situation permit meeting with a doctor, describing all your symptoms and getting a full medical exam? Your symptoms certainly warrant a careful look at depression, and it is also possible some other problem (thyroid, anemia, etc.) might be presenting with it.

How long have these symptoms been troubling you?

Its been 3 months and frankly speaking I really don't want to meet any doctor because I think that my family members will consider this thing very serious and will not allow me to go out of the city and then I'll become helpless and will be called a loser.

Welcome to PC. I am glad you found us. You can find a lot of support and understanding here. You might try taking the depression test here

Psychological Tests and Quizzes

I would echo what Rohag has to say.

I have taken the quiz and it shows that I have scored total 60 points which relates to severe depression and it says to immediately consult the doctor.

depression is very serious, if ur family members take it seriously and are there to help u take it. we all dont have families like that. u can get better with treatment. u really should go see a doctor, it could change and save ur life at the same time. good luck.

Hi ashmeet, I agree with Rohag. Why don't you want to see a medical doctor? I think that's basically always the right first step because you could have a medical problem (maybe an easily fixed one) that you're completely unaware of that's causing what you're feeling right now.

Plus, there is an extra benefit. Just the fact that you are taking positive action may make you feel better in itself. - v

I don't want to consult a doctor because then everyone will think that I am a weak person and I will be stopped from pursuing my goal in life, which requires travelling.

Welcome, ashmeet. There are natural herbal supplements you can try. St John's Wort is one. Here is a good place to start: A Holistic Approach to Treating Depression: Diet, Exercise, and Talk Therapy

I hope you feel better soon

I don't know about India, but in the USA, a Medical Doctor will keep what you say in confidence (except, unfortunately, telling your insurance company).

You might go to your Medical Doctor for a check-up and when you and he/she are alone, ask him if you can tell him/her something in confidence. I really think that your MD will agree. The basic ethics of the Medical Profession is quite global.

Hi, I am new here. I was resistant to getting help before, I was forced into into it when I had the ambulance called on me after having a manic episode. Once I stopped resisting treatment it was the best experience of my life and in fact it saved my life. I hope you reconsider. Stay safe.

The stigma surrounding it is very difficult even the stigma we place upon ourselves. I don't understand why seeing a doctor would make you weak and cause you to be prevented from pursuing your goal. But I do not know your culture. Actually pursuing your goals and travel would be a very important part of treatment.

I believe in a strong support network including professionals but if you feel you are on your own I would suggest the following.

Educate yourself on
CBT
DBT
Meditation
Diet
Exercise
Supplements
Herbs
Spiritual practices
Finding support from people who have similar problems such as here
Having goals, meaning, and purpose
A reason to live
Self acceptance and self love
Serious examination of what might be causing these symptoms

I wish you the best in this
