I have been depressed for the better part of 20 years now but have only been seeing my PsyD for about 2 years. At first I was just depressed all the time but would make a little progress here and there but would always fall back again, which I expected to happen at first. Now after about 2 years I felt like I was actually starting to make some real progress. I wasn't down all the time and was able to use the positive thinking and reframing techniques my Dr. taught me. However, it's been a few weeks since I was feeling ok and now I feel like I'm starting to slide right back to where I was in the beggining. I have no desire to do anything, I'm constantly depressed, the positive thinking has gone right out the window and I just don't care about anything. It was so hard to get to the point that I was at a few weeks ago and now it just seems too hard and pointless. I just want to give up.
Has anyone else had this happen? How did you get through it? ![]() |

yes, it is very common to have setbacks. you just look at the fact that you made progress and that means you can make progress again.

Thank you for saying that, Kaliope. I have never thought of it that way.
If you have made progress in the past, then that knowledge alone can be very comforting. It gives you hope. |

Depression is a marathon; not a sprint. We all have setbacks. I had one yesterday, but today is a new day and I'm going to put yesterday's events behind me.
