I was hospitalized in early September and I found it to be a big help. I was close to suicide when my doctor sent me to the hospital. Mainly it gave the doctor the ability to change all my meds at one time while keeping a close eye on me. I did, also, receive some good counseling and advice during my stay but mostly the med change brought me out of my depression. It was a good experience. I was my third time being hospitalized and only one of those times was a negative experience.

I've been hospitalized 20+ times, and to be honest, most of those were not helpful experiences. A few were even traumatic, and most of the rest just didn't help. The only ones that have helped were admissions to specialized units for trauma disorders, and even those had elements that were counter-productive to my recovery. But that's just me, and your mileage may vary.

I've been 5 times, and got out a week and a half ago. It was helpful and some what traumatic the last time. It depends on who all is there.
