I thought I'd make this post just to remind everyone to make sure you get enough Vitamin D, especially now in winter.

Vitamin D (also known as the sunshine vitamin) promotes both physical AND mental health.

In this study, they found that a lack of Vitamin D can lead to and/or exacerbate anxiety and depression.

Some of you may have heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or 'winter blues'. It's a type of depression related to seasonal changes, and a lack of Vitamin D correlates with the onset of this disorder.

So if you're feeling worse than usual in winter, and want to alleviate anxiety and depression, make sure you are getting an adequate level of Vitamin D.
The good news is that it is very easy to get Vitamin D, thereby protecting yourself against anxiety.

How to get Vitamin D

An author of the study states that just a few minutes of sunlight exposure each day should be enough for most people to get sufficient Vitamin D levels. So simply take a short walk outside when the sun is shining.

In winter though, it can be hard to even get those few minutes under the sun. If you can't take a walk for a few minutes under the sun, there are fortunately other ways to get Vitamin D as well:
  • Via Vitamin D supplements/tablets; or
  • SAD Lamp (You can buy them off Amazon); or
  • Consume fish oils and fatty fish

Getting adequate Vitamin D is often overlooked, but it is a very quick, easy, and beneficial way to protect yourself from certain health problems. Make sure you implement one of the ways to get Vitamin D into your schedule to help you get through winter.

Thanks, Raghib Ahmed. I was deficient in Vitamin D at one time and was told it could also cause me not to be able to absorb Calcium properly, too. The doctor's took me of the supplements but I sometimes wonder if I'm getting enough now.
