Came to brother's house for Thanksgiving. His 1 and 3 year olds are here and his wife. A family friend who is a surrogate grandmother to the kids. I took the 3 year old for an uncle and niece day yesterday, we did build a bear.

It should all be a fun time. But it's not. I kind of wish I didn't come. It was pretty difficult sleeping by myself the first night. i usually have my cat and my dog to sleep with. Seems silly for an adult to not like sleeping alone. I wasn't like that until the last couple or few months. So the second night I slept in the lounge chair upstairs. Apparently one of their cats slept on me for a while.

Unfortunately I couldn't bring my cat or dog this trip. If the surrogate grandmother wasn't here I would have the guest bedroom and could have brought my cat and maybe even my dog. Instead the dog is at the vet and the cat is being checked in on by a buddy.

Also, it was difficult getting here. It's only a two hour drive, but getting packed up for three days, going to all the doctors on Monday to make sure I have what I need to get through the week.

I'm pretty sure I'm staying home for Christmas. Just me, the dog, and the cat. Not like I'll be home alone all the time. I'll spend the entire holiday at my buddy's house not to far from mine during waking hours, with the exception of about 3 or 4 hours on Christmas day when he goes to his uncle's for dinner and fishing.

Hi Abe

I feel for you. Holidays are more difficult because they are supposed to be fun times. At least you got to see some family.

I will be alone over the holiday period. Entirely. There is nobody. I have tried hard to change this with no luck. I can't have pets where I live.

You poor thing! I at least will see my boyfriend and two sons on Christmas Day. Thanksgiving was hard (saw one person for 90 minutes and was alone the rest of the day). But I do have two dogs, which helps immensely.

I wish I had some (useful) ideas for you. I recently contacted a woman on Craigslist who needed a doggy playmate for her service dog, so I'm hoping that turns into a friendship. It's sooooo hard making friends when you're an adult. I feel like the lone sock coming out of the dryer without a mate.

Best wishes to you as you navigate the holiday season. Sending cyber hugs as well.

A lounge chair with a cat beats a lonely bed.

I sleep with my dog and cat every night too. It's a nice, snugly time. I would miss them too!
