This is where I usually post so I'm posting this here but feel free to move it if it's not applicable to depression.

A teenager I know smoked weed and drank alcohol pretty much at the same time. (First time alcohol) Since then she hasn't been herself, lots of giggling acting giddy and falling into a deep sleep no matter where she is whether sitting or standing.

She's not a content person but only those that know her well know that. Suddenly now she's rambling on about depression, suicide and addictions to anyone.

It's going on for 2 days already.

Does any of this makes sense? Why did it happen? Is it something I should be concerned about? What should I do?

Thanks

That doesn't make sense to me from just drinking and smoking pot. Maybe she is just looking for attention. I don't know???

It doesn't make sense but I don't know what to make of it. Right after she smoked a lot and drank it happened and hasn't been back to normal since.

She's also concerned about it. She's freaking out and doesn't know what to do. No one else knows why she's suddenly acting like this. It's not for the attention, she's crying to me to make her be back to her usual self.

She told me she's going to the hospital if she's still like this tomorrow. But can they even do anything. And she doesn't have insurance.

I'm at a loss.

It could be a sort of hysteria especially if her reaction wasn't what she was expecting, she may have subconsciously created a reaction to counter the negative reaction she hadn't expected and the reaction has just escalated. So instead of feeling relaxed, warm, nice, etc what she felt was dizzy, nausea, cold, anxious, paranoia, etc. Then for whatever reason, panic maybe, she has subconsciously created a different set of effects that have spiralled out of control. I guess if it is a wierd sort of panic attack then you could see if she is hyperventilating and get her to slow her breathing, see if that helps.

I have heard it is possible for pot to trigger psychosis or make it worse for people predisposed to it. Like it can trigger mental illness that is already there but hasn't presented. Seems like a long shot for that.

Are you sure it was regular pot? Or maybe some kind of synthetic crap?

Positive it was regular pot. Nothing synthetic.

So how do I proceed from here?
Is there something I should do? What?
Or do I let it ride itself out and hope it eventually stops.

If it was here first or second time smoking pot it could have been a very intense trip. Especially given the potency now. The first four or five times I smoked pot as a teen I threw up and it was like an acid trip. Very intense. I happened to love it though.

I would say just keep an eye on her and be her friend. It will probably settle out. If it doesn't then she may need some help....I dunno, it's kind of bizarre. Maybe it really really scared her and hopefully she won't drink and use again. It it scared the crap out of her I suspect she will get over it.
