My ECT pdoc told me today that antidepressants have been shown not to be as helpful as mood stabilizers in bipolar depression. Here I was hoping that maybe a switch in antidepressants (am on vanlaxafine now) is what I need.

Is anyone else's pdoc focusing on a mood stabilizer to treat their bipolar depression?

I don't have first-hand experience, no... but I have heard that antidepressants can trigger mania in those with bipolar, so it can be dangerous. But again, that's only what I've heard. You might want to ask about it.
