I was just recently diagnosed with psychotic depression. I've suffered with depression for ~5 years, and psychotic episodes for ~2 years. I can't find anybody else who suffers with psychotic depression. My guess is that it's less common than other types of depression.

But really... Is anybody else out there?

You found one here. I suffer from really bad episodes of depression from time to time. When they are really bad, I get paranoid and my thinking is off. It isn't severe paranoia but bad enough that I go straight to my NP for help. I do know that it exists and it is a proven condition. You are not alone. I do not get any psychosis when I am not depressed. So it is a correct diagnosis for me. Actually it is not that uncommon. Hope that you get help when you need to. Be well.
Thanks for this!

I have a delusion which resulted in me having a big effing hole in my chest.

I tried to get a subforum for psychotic depression, but DocJohn thought there were too few of us.
Thanks for this!

And I don't know what the delusion is nor do I know how having a delusion can result in having a hole in your chest. But the pdoc says I have a delusion.

Thank you, sideblinded. The delusions and hallucinations can be terrifying at times. I'm glad to know that I'm not suffering alone! I only experience psychosis when I am depressed, too.

Breadfish, have you found anything to help you cope with the delusions? A psychotic depression subforum would be wonderful! I don't think that we fit into either of those forums, too.

I'm sorry that you both have to suffer with this condition. I get way too many confused looks when I say that I suffer from psychotic depression.

I don't know what the delusion is, just that they say I have one. So I don't know how I can or can't cope with it.

What are your delusions/hallucinations?

Breadfish, I see now. I asked mainly because I know of people who suffer from psychosis who can somehow find ways to cope with their psychotic episodes. I hear voices, and I think that my thoughts aren't my own at times. I have this voice, in my head and ear, that tells me that I'm worthless, don't deserve treatment, and that I'm stupid. Just recently, before I was institutionalized, I thought I saw black spots jumping around on my arms so I attempted to scratch them off with a plastic razor head.

8888an8888, I'm sorry to hear about your friend, and about your psychotic episode. I have voices telling me similar things, too. It's quite terrifying.

Hello, convalescence, my name is pfrog ... Although I am not currently suffering psychosis with depression at this time, when I first got into recovery I was ... BIG TIME! ... Sorry to hear you are having to deal with this as it can be quite disturbing.

The good news is that as I've identified the causes and earnestly worked on my healing and recovery process, things have gotten much, much better.

I hope this will be the same for you as well.

Sincerely,
Pfrog!

Pfrog, hello! It's okay. I am coping better than I ever have been before. I do agree that psychosis has a disturbing nature to it. I'm glad to hear that you worked towards your recovery. ☺ I'm hoping to be where you are some day. I'm working on mine as well. Thank you so much for the support.
