I started a new and exciting job yesterday. I am in hopes that I will do well on this job. I am also a little bit afraid. My new job involves driving. I have to be physically fit to drive. I passed my DOT physical by the skin of my teeth. My blood pressure is too high. My regular doctor also wants me to see a cardiologist because I had been having chest pain. My regular doctor also gave me an extra blood pressure medicine. I made the cardiologist appt. today. I will have to dig into reserve savings to pay for this. My new employer also wants me to see my regular doc in 30 days. The new employer does not know I am going to see a cardiologist.

My fear is that if I cannot get my health in order I may not be able to keep my new job. I have had to work under such hard conditions in my last job. I would hate to think that it ruined my health. I can't go the route of disability. I am too young.

Just wanted to sound off. Thanks for listening if anybody reads this.

I'm a sure that now the pressure of your old job is off and you've adjusted your blood pressure meds, that your blood pressure will respond well. Relaxation exercises are really good at lowering blood pressure too. Nice deep slow breathing and imagine each part of your body becoming less tense, think about your pulse slowing too.

The other important thing is that you DID pass the physical, if there were any concerns that you couldn't improve your health then that wouldn't have happened.

If I were six months older I would qualify for an early retirement scheme, as it is I have to wait another 18 years for my pension. I so relate to being too young for disability.
Thanks for this!

The cardiologist office just called me stating they do not accept my insurance. I did not know I was still covered under insurance. I don't know if I can see the cardiologist tomorrow or not. I am upset with all of this. My blood pressure is better. My left shoulder hurts. My regular doctor gave me a shot in the shoulder once and that helped. It is expensive but so is seeing a cardiologist. I don't know what to do. My new boss wants my regular doc to certify my health as "good" in 30 days. Then I have to pass another DOT physical in July in order to keep my new job.

On my last job I did not have to be healthy, just know how to do the procedures and work till I dropped.

Every time I think things are going to work out for me something messes up everything.

Hi Waterknob. I do not doubt that your old job raised your blood pressure and stressed your heart. I used to work in a high pressure restaurant. I often felt like my BP was high. Sometimes I felt faint.
Now that you are working less hours, perhaps you could walk with someone every day. Meds are not your only tool. You, like me, need to de-stress. Keep us posted on how things are.
Thanks for this!

I believe I will take up an exercise program. I will try walking until it gets too hot. Then I will take up swimming. I am just hoping nothing screws up my health or my new job. I need to stop worrying so much I know. Things will be as they are meant to be.
