ok, so a couple of days ago, I finally went to see a doctor, after waiting for months and months..
i talked to a psychiatrist (thats what it said on her name tag).. She asked me all these questions.. you know the usual, about my family, school, friends, blah blah. I told her that a doctor had sent me there because she thought i had anxiety or something.. she asked me about my symptoms and all this stuff.. It lasted for about an hour, i think.. Then, all of the sudden, she got up and went to her filing cabinet, and started going through some medicine boxes. Then she took out two sample boxes of lexapro and told me to take them.. I asked her what it was for and she said it was for anxiety/depression. it was so weird. Then, she gave me a prescription for some other drug, for sleeping i think she said. now, is this weird? Do doctors prescribe medications that soon? I mean, we only talked for like an hour.. and, how will i know when it starts working? i've never been on any medication for anything other than like tylenol... oh, and does anyone know, has anyone been on this, and now if this is addictive? She told me it wasn't but i dont always believe doctors.. thnx <3 __________________ You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes

An hour is a heck of a long time to get to talk with a psychiatrist, but typical for an initial evaluation.
Yes, they will start you on meds that soon; based on what you told us, if that's what you told her, it was the right thing to do. You'll know it's working when you start feeling better ;-). Takes at least 3-4 weeks and sometimes as long as 6-8. Millions of people take antidepressants, and none of them are addictive. Good luck.... CB |

Yeah.. most p-docs only talk to you about 15-30 minutes and give you drugs... If you want actual therapy, you have to see a psychologist or therapist/counselor. Would you be open to doing that?

I meet with my new p-doc yesterday - received about an hour from him and he handed me a new mood stabilizer to add to my current list.
I did however talk to the therapist three times before meeting with the him. Giving him through email an extensive background. I didn't want to try remember all the details in the session that I had been working on with previous doc/therapist. __________________ Direction Ripple Effect - Small things can make a difference |

i would be willling to do that therapy..
but it was just kind of strange to me that someone could know what to give me, only after knowing me and talking to me for one hour.. i thought it would take days, if not weeks to get medication/. something else that sucks is that my mom keeps pressuring me to stop taking it.. she won't shut up about it., if she only knew that she's one of the main reasons that i get so down sometimes... __________________ You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes

That sucks that your mom is not being supportive. I would find some information from this site to print out - copy and paste if you want to keep this site to yourself.
Based on your answers to the doc - Lexapro is an easy pick - it has anti-depresant and anti-anxiety effects. The long wait is more in waiting for the drug to get to its effective level. __________________ Direction Ripple Effect - Small things can make a difference |
