Does anyone else had such a hard time concentrating that you can't read a book? Even reading for work is hard. I have to really focus hard to get through a document. My concentration is just terrible.

I would recommend talking with your doctor about the lack of concentration being a major difficulty for you. When the depression improves, usually concentration abilities improve too ~ unless other variables are factors in your case: medications, brain trauma, etc.
((((hugs)))) to you.

Have to say I'm with you on this - find myself reading the same para several times. Start with something small and work up.

![]() I can only think of two reasons: distractions and motivation. Hope that helps. I also struggle with this problem sometimes. |

Sleep hasn't been too good between the kids and the cats waking me up at night. Then on nights when they don't I still wake up and have trouble falling back asleep. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have this problem, too, and it is very frustrating as I used to be an avid reader. It was a coping skill for me, a healthy way to escape, and I haven't been able to read for years now
![]() I've recently tried just starting smaller with short stories, but I couldn't concentrate on those either, so now it's poetry. I still would like to be able to get through a whole novel again, though. I don't think it matters what I'm reading; the content can be fascinating to me, and it doesn't matter if it is simple or complex. I just find myself going over the same sentence over and over. For me, I believe it is a result of mental illness that is not fully being treated properly, distractions and a busy lifestyle, and this fast-paced technological world. I'm too restless for movies and other activities as well. But the lack of reading books has really been concerning; I don't want it to become a lost art in my life.

I have the same problem.... I used to read all the time; now i need superhuman strength to keep my brain still enough to focus on a book. Sometimes i think its on account of getting spoiled by the visual media of tv/movies/youtube, where it's all laid out in front of you to absorb and you don't have to do any brainwork. On occasion I've found some instrumental background music can help; like some jazz or something.
