Hi guys, I wanted to know if any of your have an experience with being scrutinized for bipolar disorder. I know oftentimes bipolar II can look similar to recurring MDD. I take lamictal which has helped quite a bit. I have significant family history of dysthymia and depression but no bipolar. If any of you have gone through a similar process I would love to hear about your experience. How were you able to distinguish euthymia from hypomania? I spend so much time down it's hard for me to know what normal is supposed to feel like.

You might want to post this in the Bipolar forum, too, if you haven't already. I have MDD that has been treatment resistant at times, so I've gotten some of this type of scrutiny in the past. I am doing well right now on Cymbalta + Remeron.

I so know what you mean about having been down so much that it's hard to know what normal is supposed to feel like. Keeping a mood journal when you're feeling good might help with a diagnosis (but who wants to keep a mood journal when they're feeling good?) I know I want to do all the things that I wasn't able to do when I was really depressed.
Thanks for this!

Thank you for your responses! And yes, I posted in the bipolar forum also, but I wanted to hear from both sides of the fence. The one I posted over there is really long so I don't think many people will respond, but hey. oops.
Thanks for this!

Yes it was first considered for me becuase I never understood what normal was. It was fairly quickly ruled out becuase I did not go into a mania after anti depressant treatment. It turned out that I was depressed most of the time and had a couple of months here and there that were actually normal mood.
