Has anyone seen a psychiatrist in the Duluth area? I want someone who doesn't rush me in and out the door, and will actually take the time to listen.

Hi there. You might want a therapist rather than a psychiatrist. In the U.S., most psychiatrists do not do therapy at all. They diagnose you, prescribe drugs and send you to someone else for therapy. - vital

I realize that. I am not looking for a therapist. Unfortunately, I am probably not going to be able to stay off medication, so I want to discuss the issue with a psychiatrist since I don't feel that family doctors know enough about these things.

If you don't get any answers here, you might ask at the beyondblue.com forum. They have a section specifically to ask for doctor referrals, and the forum owner will put it in an email to everyone if no one answers right away. Therese Borchard, an author and journalist about mental health topics, is the owner of the site and is a Psych Central board member.

Thanks. I'm actually a member on that site as of a couple of weeks ago. Hadn't thought of posting this there.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
