I started on Venlafaxine a few months ago. It finally made a difference to my mood when the dose was put up to 225mg. I went from being very low and having barely any motivation to feeling not on top of the world but I noticed myself feeling a little bit brighter and more motivated. After a couple of months or something, my mood dipped but not as bad as before (although this could be because I'd had a change of anti-psychotic), so my psychiatrist upped the dose by 37.5mg and again I felt slightly better. I was also put on Risperidone which helped with my mood a little and definatley with my motivation. But unfortunatley the Risperidone was giving me side effects so I came off it. Since coming off Risperidone I have felt SO LOW and suicidal. My psychiatrist increased my Venlafaxine to 300mg today, so fingers crossed that works. But I hope it doesn't just work for a little while and then my mood goes down again. Has anyone else experienced this with Venlafaxine?? I also started on Latuda nearly 2 weeks ago, which doesn't seem to be helping with my mood. Does anyone know if Latuda helps improve mood and if so what dose and how long does it take to kick in. Look forward to hearing from you :-)

I don't really have an answer for you. Most meds take at least 2-4 weeks to start working.
I just started venlafaxine. My pdoc added this to the 300mg wellbutrin I'm already taking. Maybe you can ask your pdoc if that could be something for you? |

Sorry to hear that Venlafaxine only worked for a short time for you I really understand your disappointment. I have quite a long history of limited or short lasting effects from antidepressants. I tried Venlafaxine and it worked a treat but, possibly triggered by some stress, it stopped working after a couple of months. I also know people for whom it has worked very well. Maybe the risperidone was acting as an adjunct to make Venlafaxine more effective. I just looked up Latuda in wickipedia it seems to be in the same group as risperidone so hopefully it will have a similar effect, maybe with fewer side effects. Here's hoping ![]() ![]() |
