"all-or-none lurching between the polarities of the "grandiose self" and the "despised self"
(Karen Horney "described this trauma two step")

A very concise description of what many of us may have experienced internally at least, as a result of childhood abuse and neglect

(this is not about any particular person on pc or elsewhere )

My two polarities have typically just been, on the one hand, "dull acceptance" & on the other: "I can't stand this for another minute!" I now work to simply dwell within the present moment where no polarities exist.

I'm still waiting on that grandiose self... I just think it's really nice when the despised self takes a holiday

"Trauma Two-Step" - Not a nice dance. Very draining.

Im reading posts here on my way back to the city after spending yesterday upstate with relatives for thanksgiving and saw this post.. and the name Karen Horney jumped out at me..I first learned about her in college psych classes. she may be gone now but her legacy lives on. she started a clinic in my location and its still going strong today. though her specialty was neurosis and narcissism I know many that find things they can relate to, even though they may not have those two disorders. the clinic over time has expanded and now works with many different problems and mental disorders....here is a link to her clinic's website for those interested in her theories and the clinic...
