I am utterly exhausted. I sleep 11hr stretches at night and nap several times a day. I have a therapy light which has largely been succesful for combating the depression but I think there is a point when not even that can win the battle against dreary cold and impossibly long nights. I am far enough north that I only see daylight these days between 9am-430. Even at noon it is dim enough that people drive with headlamps on. Thank goodness I have not fallen into depression this year - but it is a battle. The worse part is that I don't think there is anything I can do about it other than wait for the coming lengthening of days. Thank goodness the Solstice is just around the corner.

I think us Canadians should be allowed to hibernate in the winter If it wasn't for my son starting school an hour earlier than other schools, I'd be sleeping in too. I drink at least 2 cups of coffee, that helps but I'm still very down with little daylight. I also can't wait for winter solstice so the daylight slowly gets longer.

I have the same problem.

When winter rolls around it always brings down my mood more.
Not to mention how restless I get being stuck in the house.

I sleep a lot also, way more than I should, but it gets dark around here at about 4ish as well, so it always seems way later at night than it is.

I can not wait for spring!

Living in Alaska....and in Fairbanks...which is only 120 miles from the Artic circle.....darkness is a daily battle from November to February......on the 21st of this month we get 3 hours and some change worth of light...not bright...but pretty dull.....so my depression works sinerestley against the dark......not being able to sleep.....Ive gone months with barely hours of sleep......lots happen when your sleep deprived......not good......am just saying that getting sleep....even way too much is much better than trying to get some shut eye.....hope you can balance out to get the right amount....not saying your are not suffering......best of luck...Artie
