Well, I didn't get the job. This has come as a surprize and I am disappointed. I interviewed very well and they even checked my references; so, I am left wondering what went wrong. What did I do wrong? I am hence not only bummed but questioning what is wrong with me. I'm quite down about myself this morning.

its not you, its not because something is wrong with you at all
 im sorry this one didnt work out... but it doesn't mean something won't work out... stay strong... dont look back, keep moving forward...

All it means is they felt there was someone a little better suited for this Position at this time. There is nothing wrong with you at all and you should not question your self-worth over this - we all have enough issues as it is.
Who knows, they might even have employed a relative in the end - nepotism Dave.
