There is a place 5 minutes from my house that does ketamine infusion therapy for treatment resistant depression. I am going to talk to my psychologist about it on Wednesday and my psychiatrist about it on Thursday. Is that a glimmer of hope I see off in the distance?

Wow--I just logged on to ask about the same thing! I've read good and not so good things about ketamine infusions for depression, chronic pain and even ptsd.
Please let us know what you find out. And if you're willing to share the experience if you choose to go with it, I think lots of others would be interested in hearing about it. Best of luck! |

Sorry to let y'all down but I decided against the ketamine infusions for now until there is more research down about it. I don't just suffer from depression. I too have schizophrenia. My Psychiatrist said that it is kind of a toss up right now other treatments have shown more effective like ECT (which I have done). Also reading reviews from actually treatment resistant depressives that have gone through with it is seems that the majority of the post I read are negative. I guess I will have to continue to suffer.

Thanks for letting us know. Still under consideration but it seems to have 3 major drawbacks:
1) it works fast to lift depression but doesn't last long--a matter of weeks or months before you need a booster 2) it's expensive, particularly when you need boosters every few months 3) it can result is hallucinations and intense feelings of disassociation at least during the infusion But when all else fails... |

I hear it can take up to six infusions at first to get full effect. At $500 for each infusion that's just too much. I'm only getting disability.
