Hello everyone,

After looking through this sub-forum, I've found that the topic of Therapists can be quite polarizing. So, given that today was my first Therapy appointment, I figured that I should take to opportunity to share my experience. One of the most overwhelming feelings that I had during the appointment was the realization that I was I had really fallen to the point where I needed this appointment. Sort of a "this is really happening" moment. Not like I was in denial about what was wrong with me or anything, but rather that as I was answering her questions about my family life and my emotions, it felt surreal to actually be admitting my thoughts and behaviors out loud. Admitting that these things actually happened to me, admitting that how I see myself isn't normal. It felt good to let someone that can help know. To share something about yourself that you wouldn't share with anyone else, and know that they will help you. It's good. Feel free to leave your experiences with Therapy below as well. Stay safe everyone .

I've had various therapists - sometimes it's tiring to recount the backstory again and again. But mostly I go away with a feeling of relief, having opened up and someone having heard me. The one I'm seeing now is really good and we work towards changing patterns of behavior in my life. If you're comfortable with the one you're seeing (and that's important), I think you should continue for as long as necessary.

I hope you are able to continue with therapy. Just keep in mind, if this therapist does not seem to meet your needs, there are others out there. It feels so good to be understood and know that there is someone out there who listens and does not judge. Best wishes for a new outlook on your life.
