Does any of you know what this is? I have to take it and I've read it has TERRIBLE side effects! Can anyone confirm? I have to take it only in small doses, but I'm really afraid about this.

I was on this for about a year I think, if I remember right. What dose are you on? I think I went up to 1000mg a day, maybe more but the side effects were manageable. It made me sleepy, that was my main issue with it.

Small doses. I don't know the details, though. I should take it twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. One is "full" and the other is only half of it. Hope that makes sense, sorry

It makes sense. I think with small doses you will be fine. Medication side effect lists are always pretty extensive as they have to report everything that people have experienced. But that doesn't automatically mean you will have a problem. I hope the medication will help you

Depakote, Depakane is Valeproic acid , it is an anti fonvulsanr mood stabilizer, it was discovered in the early 70's , they used it to clean laboratory rats cages , they epileptic mice were noticed to be strangely free of seizures in the days after there liter was changed and cage was cleaned , my Mom was one of the first human trials on it for epilepsy , it did not help much if at all in her case , as a mood stabilizer I have seen both good and bad, no one takes anti convulsions if they can be avoided because they tend to take things to say "flat level" no highs no lows just kind of blah, I take Trileptal for epilepsy, it doesn't always work and I will seize uncontrollably and have to be treated in the hospital for a week or so at a clip to control the seizures. Rule of thumb the more medication you take the worse the potential adverse effects.

hy. did your new therapist give you this medicine?

I don't know it but i was searching on web about that.
acido valproico
Did he say you the reason for this medicine? for anxious state?
i think in little doses you have not to wonder about.
But you can ask details... for how long do you have to take? did he give you a planning?

It was my psychiatrist, but yeah. He didn't give me reasons, he just said it's a mood stabilizer. We didn't decide for how long I should take it..

Thank you, though

Its FDA black box warning says it did some pretty hairy things to patients at some point, but I take 2500 mg Depakote (for a blood level of 98 micrograms per milliliter) without side effects. Make sure your pdoc pays attention to your liver.

This is sound advice - keeping an eye on your liver enzyme levels.

Thank you both! I'll keep an eye on it and I'll tell my Pdoc.
