I am not depressed. I have depression, but I am not that which I have. I am me. I am myself. Depression is a tiny shred of my being and therefore doesn't quantify as me as a whole.

I am not my illness. I am still me....

I am still me.

You are so open with your feelings here that I really do understand how bad it is for you...

So when I read a post like this, that has a glimmer of hope in it for yourself, it makes me smile. And, while lots of people might say that as a matter of course, when we (on PC) say it, then you know it's a very real and honest occurrence.

No. Your illness does not define you.
