So, I was on Abilify for awhile and stopped taking it because I gained a bunch of weight - then I had horrible anxiety and restless legs/arms. So, I went back on it. Recently, I was fed up with the weight gain so I stopped again for a month and last night the restless legs came back (but I lost 10 pounds in a month - first time I could lose weight since I started taking this crap. I had Gabapentin from before and took it with half a mg of Abilify last night and slept like a baby for the first time in a month....this Abilify is nasty stuff. It digs in like a tick. How can I taper off of it in such a way that it won't cause these problems? My psych doc doesn't want me off of it but I don't need it and its really full of problems, not to mention it zones me out. I was taking 0.5 mg daily.
Thanks! Tapering incorrectly. ![]() ![]() |

Hi Fleebus, you're right, Abilify IS nasty stuff and I'm furious with my psychiatrist for ever having prescribed it for me! I, too, gained alot of weight which only made me MORE depressed. I thought it was helping me at first but then seemed to suddenly stop working. I'd suggest you start taking 1/2 of your usual dose for a couple of weeks, then take a 1/2 dose every other day, then every third day until they are banished forever from your life. Wishing you the best, good luck!

Thanks much for the great advice, I'll go slow as you say. Why don't they tell you this stuff when you start taking it - it's crazy! And I use that word judiciously lol.
