so I want to throw something out there and see what others responses to it and reactions/comments are...

for people who are unable to financially support themselves because of their mental illness disability, how do you deal with the thought(s) that all you are is a financial burden?!

Well... I don't have this problem so much anymore since my wife & I are both retired & drawing Social Security benefits. However I stopped working years before she did. So there were quite a few years when I definitely felt like a financial burden.

What I did to try to deal with the situation was that I did as much as I could around the house. I did most of the cleaning & cooking as well as working on the various home maintenance projects that needed to be done.

I worked full time for over 20 years and faithfully paid my taxes. I'm on disability now and don't fill like a financial burden. Would I choose this? Absolutely not. I can't contribute financially around the house much so I contribute in other ways. I don't feel like a burden and I hope you don't either.
Thanks for this!

I financially burden the state rather than a family. Nevertheless, the thought I'm a weight around society's neck is ... uncomfortable.

On the other hand, I recognize my existence serves as a justification for several agencies to exist and draw funds from the state. Sometimes I wonder how many people my continued living "supports" in government service.

oh it definitely is uncomfortable and a horrible feeling/thought. but it's one thing to have the thought on your own. it's a completely different horror to have someone else project that onto you...
