Hi guys,

I'm wondering what you think is the cause or causes of your mental health issue(s) - (Depression and any other MI issues you may have)

I think I was genetically vulnerable. Add a dysfunctional, abusive childhood, several traumas and intense stress and you've got a good recipe for MI. How do you think yours came about?

(((((((( Jennifer )))))))))

In no particular order

Genetically vulnerable

Abusive, dysfunctional childhood

Traumas

Thanks for sharing ... as you can see I think similarly to you re the causes of my mental health issues

This is my current thinking anyway

My answer is pretty much identical to Jennifer's. I sometimes wonder if had my genetics been the same, but my upbringing different, if I would have MI at all. Pretty much every symptom I have and have ever had can be caused by trauma and trauma disorders. But, for insurance reasons, to get things paid for basically, I have diagnoses other than just trauma stuff.

Thanks for sharing, I appreciate your reply - my answer is also very much similar to Jennifer's

I wish I knew. I wasn't traumatized like many others here. I have no known biological issues.

Possible trigger:

It is actually very common (as you all likely already know) for folks with abuse/trauma histories to have a mental health diagnosis. I also believe/agree that there could be a variety of contributing factors such as: biochemical, current or past environment, genetics, etc.
For me, I think most (if not all?) of my struggles with major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder and p.t.s.d. are due to abuse beginning in childhood and lasting many years. Filing a civil suit against my former stepfather for the abuse was healing in one sense but it also took a toll on me emotionally.
Great question, Fuzzybear!
