So I'm new to this and I hope I can build friendships and a community around me that sort of understands how I feel.

I am 20 and I live in New York State I mention that because winter is approaching slowly but surely and that means... shorter days and I just get so depressed. I have been battling with depression and panic disorder for a year now and it has crippled me. When my boyfriend and I fight I often end up in a panic state, and I just am so reactive and it feels like I'm dying so whatever I say doesn't even matter. I feel like I'm pushing the one person who has been through it all away... I'm not using it as an excuse and I just don't know what to do.

Are you in therapy? Have you ever thought of moving south? I don't think I could deal with the long winters where you live.

Depression is miserable and anxiety is frustrating--it can feel like you have no control.

I was in an intensive therapy about 4 months ago and it was very helpful but it's wearing off I think? And everyone close to me is here I don't think I could leave and gain happiness...?
Thank you for your response!

I agree with Hoping. Seeing a therapist would be good if you can afford it.

Winter and the holidays can be very difficult for individuals who suffer from depression and other conditions. I understand the feeling and have felt similarly in the past. I have since come to enjoy that time of the year whether I am alone or in a relationship or with friends and family. I focus less on the people and more on what I like about it, the holiday lights and snowfall for example. Those sometimes go well with the short days just because of how beautiful the scenery can get, so that's how I have coped with the winter blues.

So sorry to hear about your relationship troubles and depression/panic attacks. I agree with the therapy suggestion and I hope that you can perhaps start to enjoy winter days for their nicer aspects and stay strong enough to get through the rest of the year. Best wishes!

I have depression and anxiety as well. I empathize. I live in the South and still get SAD on top of the depression during the winter. Do you use spectrum lighting and a light box? That can really help. I agree therapy would be beneficial.

Sending big hugs.

Welcome here I'm sure you'll fight a lot of support and understanding here. Being aggressive is common with depression and those closest to us often get it the worst.
