My general genre is metal-rock, nu-metal. Yeah, the lyrics can be deep but the music allows me to feel angry instead of lost in despair. Sometimes, anger is a welcomed relief to me. Other times, I listen to indie because it can calm me down from panic.
What's your distraction genre, artist and/or song?

It varies but is usually something that is soothing to me, but my list might seem weird to others.
Lately, Lacuna Coil really helps me. I think it is Christina Scabbia's voice. Also Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, The Smiths, Alice in Chains, REM, Smashing Pumpkins, Leonard Cohen, Fleetwood Mac, Patti Smith, 10000 Maniacs, Dream Academy, Bad Religion, Butthole Surfers etc etc. Sometimes it is Slayer, Megadeth or something like Obituary that is calming and makes me happy-ish. No one ever accused me of being normal.

well, I have my tranquility cd which is really useful. not only to relax me at the end of the day, but to put on in the background while you are doing something.
also, music by michael jackson i've been a fan of his music since as far back as I can remember. I grew up with videos of him doing the moonwalk (my grandmother had them) also, a lot of euro acts so people like E-type, or B4, smile.DK, chipz, that sort of music. providing I don't feel too triggered, emilie autumn can be quite distracting. I listen to her stuff a lot and still even more... soundtracks from musicals can act as a good distraction. the lion king, for example, it is quite lite and quite uplifting (hacoona matata!) I also love a group called camella. they are spanish,. and to be fair, their music isn't exactly uplifting. but it works for me. lastly, artists like linken park. I love linken park.. always have, always will. I guess what i'm saying is that diffrent things work at diffrent times |

When I'm really depressed or down, I listen to disco music. Strange yes but try to listen to It's Raining Men or YMCA and not smile or giggle. I only listen to it when I'm down.

I have a song that I use to help me sleep, thought I'd share it. 'Saturate' by Breaking Benjamin.
By the way, I love all of your guys' taste in music.

Instrumental, classical, and original soundtracks. Really, they are the only genres that I generally listen to, but they succeed in incorporating virtually any emotion imaginable (except perhaps for the classical).
