Hi there !

I'm 15, currently in highschool and since a few weeks my mum has been suffering from depression.

She has lost weight and appetite, she's constantly tired, and sleeps during most of the day. When she's awake, she would just sit on a couch or on a chair and stay here for a long time, doing nothing. Or she just gets mad and starts complaining & cursing about everything. It's hard to see her like that ,__,

I don't really know why she's depressed, she doesn't know herself haha. The doctor just said "She's depressed", and got her some medication.. That's all I know.

I don't want to see her like that anymore, really. Is there something I can do in order to help her get better ? Because I feel really powerless right now ,,

Thank you in advance

It sounds like you are being understanding and supportive. That's amazing and something many adults can't manage. There isn't much you can do for someone with depression. Just love her and keep living your life. Moms want more than anything for their kids to be happy (I'm a mom of four).

I know this is hard for you, but keep being tough. You really are giving her the best support just by being there.

Hopefully the meds will help but they take a little time to start working. In the mean time just keep doing what you're doing, it's good that you are there for her.

Hi there. It's so good that you are trying to help your mom. I would say the most helpful thing to do would just tell her that you will always love her, no matter what. Just say that she is an amazing mom, and just being like this isn't her fault in any way. It's just like having a physical illness, and that you don't see less of her. I hope your mother feels better.
