I live with my parents and mom is the best, But my father is just a prick most days.
A few days ago I was shopping with him and we bumped into our neighbor and she was asking how I was feeling because we hadn't spoken after my latest hypo-episode. Her interest in me..well it made me feel good about myself. Hours past, back home. I decided to ask her if she would like to share an ice cream. Purely innocent. He turns to me and says: "Do you think she likes you? She'd never be interested in you" Then he starts saying how I'll never get better and be able to live alone. Just today he well knew how much I wanted to go shopping, and went without me. He also tries to make me feel guilty about buying my mom flowers every paycheck. |

It was sweet of you to ask her to share an ice cream!
![]() It's sweet of you to buy your mom flowers every pay check, too! Sounds like dad is feeling inadequate and needs to put you down? It would be helpful if he could be supportive. Sad. I am sorry you have to live with this. As for what to do about it? If you are stuck living with him, then maybe talk to him and tell him how much he is hurting your feelings? Take care. ![]() WC

Ok. Rough spot to be in. I recently moved out of my parents' house after returning to help them. It was mostly unbearable there. Have you ever bought him flowers or a gift? Maybe there's a jealousy thing happening. I dunno

I've mentioned it before to him, but he's sorry when he does it.
I've just discovered that socializing with my father makes me want to get high. This is problematic because he's always outside. I've turned back to spending more time with Netflix. BTW, I buy him wine every other week and I do all his "internet" even though I tried to get him to do it on his own. So hard to construct sentences lately. I guess I'm venting but hoping to learn something new |

One possibility is that your father is communicating from fear, which in a male usually manifests itself as anger. It may be that he is worried if something happened to him, what would become of you, and maybe your mom, too. Just a thought.

Also and if anyone wants to answer, what should I do when he puts me down? I can only isolate for so long without sun light...

Have you ever tried to stand up for yourself when that happens?

However, this afternoon was great. I went for an hour and a half walking. I ask her about him and she said he's stressed. But his state if mind is not my fault, I have a fricken ark of problems I'm only starting to make positive choices etc. Ps: I love the son of a bit(h. But yeah I've tried, things only get normal around here |

I'm a big fan of being direct. If someone is speaking to me in a way that is detrimental to my mental health, I tell them it's not appropriate. If it continues I physically walk away.

You are right and it’s progress to realize that his state of mind is not your fault.
