I have a long history with depression but have always stayed on top of my academic priorities and school work. I go to a very rigorous University and am in the midst of also applying for jobs but the last few weeks I have not been able to focus on school at all. I have started missing deadlines, not studying for tests and overall just not caring, all things that have never been even a remote issue for me before. I am less secure about my future, what I want to do and even where I see myself a few weeks from now. I am worried that I am going to miss opportunities and the rigor of my school does not allow many slip-ups throughout the semester, it is very very easy to fall behind.

Any suggestions on how I can improve this situation would be greatly appreciated

Seal,

Welcome to PC.

I'm sorry that you are struggling so much with depression. There's enough pressure in university without that.

I would highly recommend going to your school's counselling centre and asking to speak to a counsellor. They'll have some idea's to help you manage and may even refer you on to an MD for possible meds.

Remember depression is treatable, this doesn't have to derail your education.

Yes, go to your school counsellor. University can be hard to deal with if you have depression.

I spent several years with a counselor back in high school and do feel that it might be time to revisit the idea, however, I have also reached out to my school's counseling center on two occasions but after the initial consultation they immediately refer you out of the school's system into private care and unfortunately that is not a financial burden I can take on right now (copays, transportation, etc.). You might imagine how frustrating this would be after gaining the courage and resolve to try to make a positive step but being limited because of finances.

I have made a lot of positive changes in my life - eating much healthier, exercising but am still at a loss and not sure where to go from here.

It also might be worth noting that I struggle with moderate body image issues and the thought of going on medication that could potentially cause weight gain is not something I can come to terms with

When was the last time you had a complete blood count done? It would be nice to rule out physical causes of your symptoms.

Please make yourself at home here.

About 4 weeks ago actually! Everything came back normal except for slightly high cholesterol but thats likely to do with my high protein/low carb diet
