Something about this inner snake I find extremely unsettling is that it knows far more than my conscious.
When solving problems, I sometimes listen to the voice(thoughts) of reason helping me solve the problems going through them with me to identify solutions, whether it be for work or a relationship. However, its that same voice(thoughts) I learn to trust that in most situations is beating me down with its own thoughts of who or what I am in most any and other situations. Does anyone have this problem? I want to separate them but I think they are the same. Obviously its a vastly unbalanced struggle, most the time Im losing, its so cunning it tells me it knows what others think of me too. |

Yin and yang... I think we are supposed to assess whether the snakes message is true for us and challenge him/her if he/she belittles us. We were programmed in our childhood and so was our snake. I think the snakes ability to imagine what others think, is the most damaging trait. It is hard to spot it and analyse it before it invades us. Sometimes I worry that I have upset someone after not hearing from them. They were busy but my snake tells me they don't like me anymore and I am bad and useless. In the long run it turns out to be untrue but my snake is very cunning and convincing. |

Yes, in a ... non aggressive status this side of me is kinda helpful, too. Similar to @Hi IM Dan. It's very attentive and perceptive. But this is also the reason why it sometimes goes overboard. And at this point I am still not able to distinguish the moment my healthy perception becomes the anabolic induced Hulk and overanalyzes everything. Because most of the time it's a creeping recession. Maybe asking it to be a bit nicee will help. Thanks again. |

Our primary care givers did not care about us and belittled us. A child would internalise that lack of care, their inability to care, and feel that it is them who are ''bad and useless'' - they could not place blame or perceive a deeply flawed human who probably should never have been a parent... that would be too dangerous. So if someone else appears not to care, whether this is real or perceived, especially if that person had appeared to care before... it sets our snakes programming off. As you said, usually the person is not like the primary ''care givers'' and is a decent human being who was busy rather than callous and cruel. I don't know if this makes sense. hugs and respect to you and your snake __________________ |

I agree with you Train of thought and Fuzzybear.
Rumination is a terrible habit of ours. Spending so much time analysing our snakes (and what other peoples say via their inner snake) is very negative for us. We are unable to forget the subject because of our internal pain and need for compassion. I guess we are not good at self love.... Fighting against how we have been programmed dear Fuzzybear, takes all our time and energy. If we didn't have all this to contend with, we would have time to be our true happy and successful selves that has been denied us. Hugs and respect |

to reprogram, when the voice says don't do that do it. When the voice says they don't like you stay quiet.. say something. Within reason

There are sometimes when I am grateful to my snake. She has alerted me to danger.
I am going to try asking her to be kind today.... Hugs and respect to all |

I'm happy my "inner snake" has been quiet during this writing session. In the past I'd really struggle with self doubt at how my story was going or if it really was a story or if I should even write it in the first place...I think it helps that I think of this in terms that no one will be reading what I am writing at the moment though. I mean, I could potentially share it, because I am censoring it somewhat, but at the same time, it's thoughts and fears that I too have being portrayed in this story, so in that sense it is kinda scary when someone else reads it. Anyway, that's what I first thought of today when thinking of this concept of inner snakes.

giddykitty, my snake can also be confused and indecisive. Maybe our snakes are just insecure.
