My inner snake seems to be very nocturnal lately....
 She keeps triggering me when I try to sleep and wakes me in the middle of my slumber...

Yes. I had to do battle with my inner snake yesterday as he was quite a bit stronger than usual [something or someone must have been feeding him]. He really got the better of me at times but I managed to quiet him down in the evening. I'll see how we go today. Feeling more positive.

Today a outer snake from the past attempted to reappear into my life.....
 I am proud to say I have politely rejected him.... This was not enough... I ignored the text that followed... Today my inner snake was on my side.. She behaved like a tame snake... |

I wrote this thread (also in my signature) and I have the exact same realization as you... let's be kind to our inner critic, he will be kind to us too... that's what science says. But of course, it doesn't end there.

I feel that I have a lot of "inner snakes". I think about myself and how I'm not a good of a person as I should be or should have been. When I get confronted by someone for doing wrong, my mind goes into a whirl. My mind says things like: "yea, he's right. You don't do things well. You irritate people a whole lot", etc. But like one previous poster said, "we come down harder on ourselves because we didn't confront that person who had hurt us" (something like that). And a very big regret I have is that I had not lashed back and I felt like the other person deserved it. But we have to be careful of that, especially when being confronted for doing wrong.
