A few years back, someone told me that I should go walking. I asked why. I said I hate walking.

The person explained - have you ever stopped to take in the beauty of nature? The way the trees sway in the wind, or the sound of the birds? The hues of the sunset, or the chirping of the crickets? The colors of the rainbow, or the clear blue sky? The snow covered peaks of the mountains, or the bubbling white water of the crashing waves of the ocean? There's beauty everywhere - if you look for it.

As you walk, your mind calms taking in the imagery - but also as it produces endorphins through the exertion of walking .. and if you absorb enough sunlight while doing so, also produces serotonin.

You have time to think about things so you can relax. Generally, people walk faster when stressed and decrease their pace as they become less stressed. Stress, is one of the big reasons people are depressed. So - walking briskly, on a regular basis is good. Or - walking at a casual pace and taking in nature, on a regular basis is good.

Also - if you are in a place where walking barefoot on earth soil is possible - this helps improve depression as well. It also releases serotonin in the brain, but maybe other links to improve depression as well.

So .. if you are not able to do anything else to help your depression - go for a walk .. what harm can it do? But it may do PLENTY good!

❤❤❤
