I'm struggling with the idea that my depression is never going to go away.. I've been on medication (Prozac) for over a year now, which has helped with my depression alot. It also causes me to have pretty bad anxiety.
I decided since I felt I was in a pretty good place that I would stop taking all of my medication - i'm tired of always taking it, and so sick of feeling medicated and numb all of the time. The week following was great; I've been feeling so good and like myself again - I thought my depression was gone. However, i'm just feeling so depressed again. I just want to know if it's ever going to stop; or are the only options be depressed or be medicated forever? Don't even remember what normal feels like anymore. |

Hello Charlie: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central. One additional forum, here on PC, that may of interest to you would be the Psychiatric Medications forum. Here's a link:
https://psychcentralforums.com/psychiatric-medications/ I'm sorry I cannot tell you whether or not your depression is ever going to stop. Perhaps other PC members will have some perspective they can share. In the meantime, here are links to 2 articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of depression: Depression: Symptoms, Types & Treatments | Psych Central Living with Depression: A Guide for Coping with Depressive Feelings | Psych Central I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." I hear you! You're not alone in your struggles, @charlie242, and I understand why you feel this way! Like sarahsweets has already wisely said better than I ever could, there's nothing inherently wrong with taking meds, although I guess that you're mostly referring to the side effects. Remember that it's your Pdoc's job to help you find the best possible meds combination for you so that you'll be able to lead a regular Life. Yes, it can get frustrating, but I think Life is worth it. Yours certainly is! You deserve to live a good Life just like everyone else does. Please be kind to yourself, ok? Things will get better! I'm sure of that! Please remembr that you're stronger than you think! You know that's ABSOLUTELY true! You matter, you're strong, you're WONDERFUL, you're worth it and you are important! You kno wALL of this is ABSOLUTELY true! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH You, @charlie242, and ALL Of Your Loved Ones! PLEASE KEEP FIGHTING AND KEEP ROCKING LIKE YOU'RE ALREADY WONDERFULLY DOING ALL AND ENTIRELY BY YOURSELF!
