Real question, not rhetorical: If a person truly "abandons" him- or herself, does that person continue to feel pain?

This is an excellent question (in my humble opinion.) I'm not actually sure exactly what it means for a person to abandon themselves although I have the sense that it is possible & it does happen. Yet, if asked to do so, I don't know as I could define it. (I have the sense one might say I have abandoned myself... or perhaps it would be more appropriate to say "given up on" myself.

So, if a person truly "abandons" her or himself, does that person continue to feel pain? I would have to say, at least in my case, yes one does. One may no longer put forth any effort to heal... to be different than one is. But the pain is still there nonetheless. I would liken it to chronic physical pain. One may give up on seeking a cure for the pain. But the pain is still there. It doesn't go away simply because one has given up trying to find a cure. At least those are my thoughts on the subject. Thanks for raising the question!
