For many, the holidays can be anything but "merry & bright".

No matter what your struggle is, this is a safe place to post about it.

Maybe by sharing, it will help all of us find a little comfort as we try to get through yet another "blue christmas".

I just posted on the "Are You Alone For Christmas?" thread on Coping With Emotions. I rarely go there but I wish I had since that thread was there.

This is a nice time for me only because I get time off from work and the pace slows down. When it gets into Christmas Eve & Christmas, then I really feel down. I had stated on The Daily Check In that I'm alone and feel like a failure. Being alone for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years (my birthday) can make me feel that way. And it seems like everyone else around me are doing OK except for me.

Gentle hugs to all ...

Memories of growing up (and living in) domestic violence, incest and abuse for 33.5 years usually impact me in a more pronounced manner around the holidays.

Add to that a recent (and extremely late discovery) of a rather serious autoimmune disorder that has resulted in a lot of lost ground (physical health impact) for me this year, and ...

Whew, Boy!

Let's just say it's like a double-whammy this holiday season and leave it at that.

I'd say maybe next year will be better, but at this stage I'm not so certain of anything anymore!

@will19

This is a really hard time of year for me too. I keep thinking that I’m spending about 3 months out of every year struggling with sadness because the holidays reminds me of what I lost or never had. I keep wondering how I could do things differently so I could feel better. Best wishes to you. RE: Holidays & Depression ...

On the one hand, there's plenty of Holiday Survival advice.
On the other, depression is real, and for any number of people here this time of year is its own special hell.

I feel guilty about the sadness and hopelessness I feel today.

When I have company, I wish to be alone.
When I am alone, I want company
