How stupid can 1 be? With ALL of the bad things that have happened to me at psych hospitals & from therapists, I'm actually considering one that my wife wants me to do. Rather than being locked up for the typical week & having all of my freedom stripped away & not being able to work. This one is a 3 week program at minimum.
My "inner voice" is screaming at me. "You f' ing idiot. How have you not learned your lesson by now?" I could very easily lose a good job if I do this. If I take off 3 weeks "sick" I would have to report why. Then it would be known how much of a nut job I truly am.
How can I be so dumb for even considering this. I know better.

Not if you take 3 weeks off work under the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act). You can actually take that 3 weeks off and have your employment there protected. It's a federal law compliance thing that your employer is required to follow. But you have to get the right paperwork, get your employer to sign-off on it, etc. I would talk to an FMLA and ADA representative about it. You are legally entitled to 12 weeks of paid leave from your employer, under the FMLA. I have included a few links for you and your wife to peruse. I would act quickly to get that 3 week program covered. If you have to, contact the program and ask them to help you get the correct FMLA forms for your employer to fill-out, so that your job is protected and you can complete that 3 week program without worrying about losing your job.

Thank you Blanche. I already knew this though. My situation is different. I have a DOT certification to drive a commercial truck. If you have depression or are suicidal you lose that certification. Losing that certification means i can't drive. If I can't drive my company has no use for me.
