My headmaster at my High School always used the metaphor of Geese as describing our little "community" at my school. He use to go on (a lot!) about how geese fly together, and how they rotate who is the goose in front of the "v". He'd then apply this to the students as taking leadership positions, etc... but he most emphasized that if one goose gets tired, or goes off track, there would be at least one other goose that would stay back with it. So no one goose was ever alone, and all the other geese were the type of geese that would help a fellow goose.

I've been seeing a lot of geese lately. I think it's because I live in a pretty rural town that is known for its agriculture. And every time i see geese, I'm always reminded of my Headmaster's words, and my "community". And what he said was always true about the geese never flying alone.

Some times it makes me happy to see geese, but more often than not, it just makes me sad. But today, i was sitting in my room, and i heard the geese outside my window. Sure enough i look up and there are a couple different groups of geese, the odd one with 2 flying a little behind the rest. A good 30 seconds goes by and i'm still looking for the geese, and then I see this one goose by itself. It's flying pretty slow, and there are absolutely no other geese around it.

I felt for that goose... no one stayed back for it...it had lost its partner, and was all alone. And then I realised.... I am that goose. And it broke my heart.

Well, I'm not a goose or a chicken or a duck or anything like that but I do know what it is like to be the odd one out for sure.

I'll sit with you, you are not alone ((((((((( jacq ))))))))) Geese

Silly goose Geese we won't let you fly alone! I'll sit with you and Pegasus too.

I live on the water and have lots of Canada Geese around too. I love it in the summer with the goslings in different stages of growth swimming through the water; the tiny new ones that have to swim around and around with their parents, looking for one of the few dirt banks they can climb up for the night (since they can't fly or hop up from the water over the canal walls) and the teens all in a row with the adults swimming up or down the canal in the evening, looking for a night place on the banks to rest; sometimes 25+ geese long.

Wow, let's all pretend to be geese. This is lame. On the other hand, if I was a goose I wouldn't be able to think so much about how much life sucks and no one even cares about me.

Yeah I understood the metaphor, I'm not stupid.

I'm sorry I said some rude things earlier. I'm just further down than I've even been lately, which is hard to accomplish. I like geese too. Sometimes I go and feed the ones in the pond at my apartment complex.

I wasn't trying to imply that you were stupid.

Nevermind. I'm done.

Canadian geese are kinda cute. I love animals though (birds included!)

You are never alone. You carry a little piece of all of us around, and I think about you (yes, even when I'm not talking to you), so although in person you may be - you're loved, appreciated, and thought of often.

I like your former headmasters metaphor - it's kinda neat.

Love ya dear friend.

(((((((((((((((((((((((jacq))))))))))))))))))))))))))) I have to wonder if all of us at one time or another are that lone goose that needs someone to come stay with them. And sometimes it is so lonely. Know that you have many people here who will comfort you when you are the lone goose. I personally think it was a wonderful post.

I think someone else was a bit short with you first actually.

But thinking about it, isn't that what geese do? Bit of a snuggle up and some do peck.....

No you are not alone we are all here with you.

maybe that goose wanted to be alone with himself for a while...sometimes silence and quiet reflection is a good thing. I like to be alone every so often. Geese melanie
