At times I have asked myself similar questions. I personally have arrived at no satisfying answer.

On the other hand, the world is full of credentialed €xper£$ who will enthusiastically offer you answers to that question.

There was a BBC detective TV series shown on our local public broadcasting station called: "Wallender" (which I very-much enjoyed by the way.) And in one of the segments, one of the characters (who was an older man) said something to the effect: "When you get to be as old as I am you come to realize you can only be the person you've always been." Perhaps that is a bit of a negative attitude. However, in my case, it has turned out to be true.

Dear Fuzzybear, I also wish I wasn't me. But hearing you say that makes me extra sad.

The problem is for me that being me is the only role I know so well. If I wanted to be someone else I would have to start out all over again.

Very Oedipus Rex! Seems like even if you are aware of your traits and try not to inhabit them, you fail. This is why it is so important to pick the right parents.

I remember watching some mini-series where that main character was talking with this older judge that was overweight and balding. The judge said that the nice thing about getting older is you stop worrying so much about how you look or what people think.

Agreed. And it's important to select parents who are not PUS (parental units)

I was chronically invalidated by my PUS.I tried to be this and that to get the validation. No matter how much I tried to please them,I never got any validation. After a long time I finally came to a conclusion ( almost) ,the best one is 'the authentic me.'So I stopped being someone else. Please be yourself and love yourself.Hugs.

Please don’t stop being you!

Although I understand you may have aspects of your life you might feel you want to work on - that is not the same as changing who you are yourself. I hope that makes sense!
