I took a B12 supplement today because I read that it's good for the brain.

@Cocosurviving I have Hashimoto's too and just wanted to mention that you should be careful with the biotin. My doc told me it can skew TSH results. Never been told that before and I've had Hashimoto's for almost 17 years now...

Latest thing I'm trying is a product called CurcuBrain. It's supposed to be a type of curcumin that can cross the blood-brain barrier. Curcumin (which is the active compound in turmeric) is supposed to be a decent anti-inflammatory. I am very skeptical that this product will do anything for me, but my thinking is that there's a correlation between depression and inflammation, and last few times my ESR and CRP were checked, they were elevated and kept rising. Of course, that was several years ago and I was definitely sick with something. I just gave up going to all the different doctors about it since it wasn't helping. Luckily whatever it was almost entirely resolved eventually.

Anyway, chronic inflammation isn't good anyway even if lowering it won't affect my depression. So figured, why not? The psychotropics aren't helping enough.

I also want to get a vegetarian omega fatty acids supplement. I doubt I get enough of that, if any, through diet.

Can't find my B12 pills. Probably should just order more since I tend to be deficient.

Other meds: Adderall, Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, BC, Gabapentin, levothyroxine, topiramate, Zofran prn, some vitamins I don't feel like typing out and often forget to take

Thank you. I read of it and asked my Endocrinologist he said everything would be fine.

I also have alopecia and my Dermatologist recommended biotin.

I’m not sure how long I’ve had Hashimotos. I’ve been misdiagnosed (like a lot of people). I’ve been diagnosed since 2018.

Ending Surprise Medical Bills
See how new rules help protect people from surprise medical bills and remove consumers from payment disputes between a provider or health care facility and their health plan

As of January 1, 2022, consumers have new billing protections when getting emergency care, non-emergency care from out-of-network providers at in-network facilities, and air ambulance services from out-of-network providers. Through new rules aimed to protect consumers, excessive out-of-pocket costs are restricted, and emergency services must continue to be covered without any prior authorization, and regardless of whether or not a provider or facility is in-network.

Previously, if consumers had health coverage and got care from an out-of-network provider, their health plan usually wouldn't cover the entire out-of-network cost. This left many with higher costs than if they’d been seen by an in-network provider. This is especially common in an emergency situation, where consumers might not be able to choose the provider. Even if a consumer goes to an in-network hospital, they might get care from out-of-network providers at that facility.

In many cases, the out-of-network provider could bill consumers for the difference between the charges the provider billed, and the amount paid by the consumer’s health plan. This is known as balance billing. An unexpected balance bill is called a surprise bill.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 was enacted on December 27, 2020 and contains many provisions to help protect consumers from surprise bills, including the No Surprises Act under title I and Transparency under title II.

I do not consider food supplements to be medicines. Medicines cure diseases. Nutritional supplements, in turn, saturate the body with useful elements.

I started back listening to a variety of podcasts last year.

Certain podcasts I binge listen Check-In Meds, Supplements, Vitamins, Medicinals or Whatever Helps You to a take breaks because the topics are heavy, triggering, emotional and a reminder of global chaos.

Most podcasts conduct interviews. I follow several individuals, BIPOC businesses, add movies/series to my watch list, and add books on my wishlist etc all featured in podcast interviews…

46 days into my vegetarian journey. My autoimmune illnessES have been very well behaved!!!

In hindsight, I wish I knew about certain things 20 years ago..

•Functional medicine vs Conventional.

•The importance of gut health.

•Parasitic cleanse.

•Ayurveda approach vs Conventional One-Size-Fits-All approach.

•Hydrotherapist- a massage therapist that specializes in lymphatic drainage, to gain more insight.

•How emotional trauma can cause a dysfunctional relationship with food.

•Why prescription drugs don’t always solve the root cause of your problem.

what nutrigenomics is, and how lifestyle factors affect genetic expression.

Importance of sleep hygiene and reducing stress.

•What integrative psychiatry is.

•How “genes load the gun, and lifestyle pulls the trigger”

•What genetic testing shows us and how we can use it for our health.

•What amino acid therapy is.

•The ways sleep influences our health.

•The importance of stress management.

•The problems associated with prescription drugs.

The healthcare system focuses on conventional medicine…the one size fits all approach.

Patients are viewed like customers and often times are placed on medications for life.

Conventional medicine is not interested in functional medicine or Ayurveda approach.

There is not a gold standard in conventional medicine which leads to patients constantly being misdiagnosed, placed on medication for years without improving or cured.

It’s been a while since I gave an update.
I spoke with my immunologist in April 2022 regarding my concerns with taking too many medications. Many medications also cause vitamin deficiencies.

I’m aware and acknowledge many of the autoimmune illnesses and rare illnesses I am diagnosed with, have a history of causing vitamin deficiencies.

Inflammation does cause the diagnosed autoimmune illnesses and rare diseases to flare up. I’m at a place in my life that I connect with functional medicine vs conventional.

I want to understand the root cause vs accept using medication for life as a bandaid.

I use a monthly flare up tracker. All the common symptoms I experience are listed and I mark an “x” on days I experience said symptoms.

During my follow up appointment on July 25th, 2022. My immunologist was flabbergasted while looking at my monthly flare up trackers for April- July 2022.

He immediately asked what did I do to decrease my flare ups by 75%.
I started transitioning to vegan on May 23rd 2022.

Am I suggesting I will never need another medication ever, no. —However I will not accept taking multiple medications for the rest of my life based on “my diagnosed” medical illnesses.

Am I suggesting vegan is for everyone, no. I never said or suggested vegan is for everyone. I knew vegan would work “for me”because my ancestors (Ethiopian and Muscogee Nation) ate primarily vegan or Ital prior to colonization. SAD; standard american diet is the death of BIPOC.

My ancestors did not consume dairy at all. Meat was not regularly consumed and primarily during celebratory occasions (wedding).

I’m not making suggestions to anyone however I am not interested in negative feedback. I’m simply celebrating and stating what has worked for me based on “my diagnosed” autoimmune illnesses and rare illnesses. Plus my ancestral lifestyle (vegan, Ital) vs SAD (standard american diet).

My Goal- Fruits, vegetables, and beans instead of supplements to provide the fiber and vitamins they contain.

I’m going to speak with my immunologist about discontinuing all vitamins and supplements (except vitamin D and biotin).
I want to getting my annual physical and seeing if I still have vitamin deficiencies “without” taking vitamins.

Cronometer app- I use Cronometer because it gives a better information on the foods you consume—-regarding vitamins and nutrition.
I have previously worked with a few nutritionists and have a good grasp of reading food labels and which whole foods contain essential vitamins and nutrients.

Whole foods – like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and legumes -- retain their fiber as well as the whole portfolio of beneficial phytochemicals and nutrients that are often removed in processed foods.

I do have diagnoses of : Depression, Fibromyalgia and Atopic Dermatitis as well.
I do not take/declined to take; any medications for Depression and Fibromyalgia. I treat both with natural methods and healthy coping skills.
