Has anyone ever had a bad experience calling these people at crisis helpline? Honestly all of the phone calls I've had with these people leave me feeling worse due to the numerous calls of callous and immature nature of the so-called counselors on crisis hotlines, the NYC wells are the worst yet... They make you wait up to 15 minutes to half an hour waiting for a counselor to come to the phone, in the meantime while you're waiting they keep looping the music and in between you get the same announcements like "Please continue to hold and someone will be with you shortly" and when you finally get a counselor on the phone, they simply just don't give a 💩, will not listen, keep asking me the same questions over like "Are you planning to commit suicide?", "Do you use substances?" All kinds of idiotic 💩!

Sadly I have had similar experiences. I could never be a crisis counselor I think, because even when I can feel another person's pain, I never know what to say beyond trite words and platitudes. My heart goes out to you!

Yes, it was a horrible experience for me as well.
I don't know why they work in crisis helpline for. Maybe they are students in health care professionals trying to have something to say in their resume. I wouldn't call again. I guess I can't expect a complete stranger to care about me and have something genuine and sincere to say. I have realized that I have to be my own counselor. I have to find whatever I am lacking in my life and fill that void. And do what I can for myself but i might not know what i need at times. And even so, that may not be enough or even possible. And that might not be possible for others too. There is no solution that fits for all. Life is complicated. Yes, it would be nice if people cared but how to find people that care? I don't know but I have to care first because others find it hard to care when someone who struggles with self worth. Life is complicated. I have met rude doctors and psychiatrists, etc. They can make me feel worse. I know people tell me I have to see a health care professional but I haven't found one yet that is good. Quote:

I once called a mental health clinic for help at the end of the day. I said hi & told the phone rep why I was calling. She said this to either a co-worker or her supervisor, "We got another one". She didn't even put me on hold so her speech could not be heard. What she said made me feel like I'm just another sheep in the depression community. I understand it was almost time for them to go home but I would've easily accepted an answer like "I'm sorry, at this time of day no one is available to take your intake. Do you think you can hang on til the morning?"

I've had a similar experience, the samaritans just repeat the same rubbish all the time like "we're listening" but they (in my experience) never actually say anything helpful
