Hi dance,
I've had it done. I think there are two kinds, injection and surface. I had the needle test. I don't remember it being too painful but it is a bit uncomfortable. Kinda pinches a little like when you're having blood drawn, but the needle is much thinner. I think the whole procedure lasted about an hour, maybe an hour and a half, but I also had a nerve conduction study done at the same time. |

Hi Dance,
I had one done on my arm this year and it was slightly painfull. I'm sure the person that performs it will explain the procedure to you first. Depending on where you are being tested it is kind of hard to predict the level of pain during and after the test. Like Orangeblossom said feels like having bloodwork done but stings for a bit after. Stay strong, you can handle this. Tracy

Have had several. It's a bit tingly, but it helps if you talk to the test administrator...gets yr mind off the procedure.

That is such good advice and it helps. ((((Starbuck1128))))
Try breathing techniques and don't worry too much, it's going to help you in the reading to be less tense. Imagine winning the lottery or something! Hope all goes well till then. Peace and Support, Night xoxoxoxo ![]() |

Hi Dance,
Yes, I've had many! I did a imagery type and one time did deep breathing and peace quiet music. Usually the medical team will want to make you feel comfortable. I felt more pressure and a bit tingy a "ROOT CANAL" was worse than this EMG. Relax and don't worry too much about it. Peace... ThaCrew

Hi -
I've had an EMG done twice now, both times in conjunction with a nerve conduction study. I agree with the others that it's not too bad. The doctors who administer the tests are generally very eager to make the patients as comfortable as possible during the test and keep you at ease. That's been my experience. There may be a few uncomfortable moments, but they are very short. When I go, I focus on my breathing and keep thinking of good, pleasant, peaceful things - maybe a place I enjoy like the beach, or the mountains! That helps me feel peaceful during the test and I think it helps. Good luck to you! Take care, ErinBear
