I've been seeing a rheumatologist these past 2 months because my joint/muscle pain got so bad it became debilitating and I could not get out of bed. I'm 19, and I've been dealing with this issue since I was 13 and it's only gotten worse. When I was 13, it was discovered that my knee bones turn inward and grind against each other which causes some of my pain, but my doctors did nothing to treat it. When I was 15, I went to a doctor who told me everything was all in my head, which is why I didn't see anyone else until recently, out of necessity.

This new doctor has told me that I have fibromyalgia as well as "something else". He told me that it might be lupus, arthritis, or some other autoimmune condition. After numerous tests and visits, however, he still has not told me what exactly I have! Has he just not figured it out yet? Why don't I know? I'm frustrated

Have you had xrays? Has your doctor ever said that you might have chondromalcia/patellofemoral syndrome? In that condition the muscles on the inside of the thigh are weaker than those on outside thigh which causes knee cap bone to be off center. I have that condition and there are exercises you can do to strengthen the weaker muscles.

Not that this will help or be of much comfort, but some times they don't know and are still trying to figure it out themselves. It doesn't mean you shouldn't keep pushing for answers, for help, and care to manage and treat symptoms in the process. The body can be such a mystery at times especially with autoimmune things if that is what it is. Keep on the doc and go for other opinions too if necessary and in the process to find the care you need.

ina, i would pursue this until you get a definitive answer. go get a second, third, etc opinion if need be. there are competent docs out there and many who are not.
my son was born with a rare disease. he was very ill from birth. i took him to a diagnostic hospital well known and they told me "he had no illness, i was just an over-protective mother". i had given them the family history of this disease also. turns out that is exactly what he had.) i finally was so desparate that i scheduled to see a new doc. told him my concerns for my son. i said if you're not interested in helping me with my son then don't waste my time. not too tactful but i was so over it and scared. you keep pushing onward to get to the bottom of this. please keep us posted.
