I have schizoaffective disorer and I was diagnosed with celiac disease about a month ago. I've been gluten free for about a month and have felt great until about a week ago. All my GI symptoms have returned and I have mindblowing fatigue. This has just wrecked my life. I'm terrified that I'm relapsing into depression, but the only depressing thing is that I feel like crap all the time. I don't want to sleep, but I get so exhausted that I can hardly walk or carry on a conversation. I found the cat food in the fridge the other day! Is this familiar to anyone? I thought I'd be better on gluten free, not feel worse. I feel terrified.

Going gluten free can really mess with you. You would think that just going off of it would help. However, your body has been so screwed up from eating it, that the healing takes time. You should make sure you are eating whole foods not processed foods. Your body needs time to heal. Most people go up and down in how they feel while they are healing. Your body is adjusting. Go to celiac.com. That is where I get all my info about my celiac. They have a lot of good information. They have a forum where you can ask questions and get information. I know that my depression gets really bad when I get glultened. I get a variety of other symptoms too that took time to identify. Take care of yourself and be gentle with yourself.

Thx I will check out that website. I saw my fam practice doc today and he said I most likely have a cold virus. He said that with celiac your immune system goes in the crapper for a while. I found that comforting. I see my GI doc Thursday and will be anxious to hear his opinion. It's so hard to be patient when so much is going on in my life. I have a kid getting married next month and I perform in a college chorale and it's not like I can just stop life, ya know? I know it will take time though. I truly appreciate the encouragment. It helps me to 'normalize' how I'm feeling -

I have found my mobile phone in the fridge, in the freezer and in the linnen cupboard before now!!!! I even found my asthma inhalor in the larder one day!!! yep i am allergic to gluten too!

my immune system went well up the shoot, i had 6 infections one straight after another

try making a tea of :
1 cinnamon stick -snapped in half
a good pinch of cloves
2' of root ginger - peeled and sliced
juice of a lemon
a spoon of good honey

infuse the above list in boiling water for a good 5-10 minutes, drink this about three times a day for a good few weeks, it will keep most cold/flu bugs away! it also is great for stomach problems and much more as it is antiviral, anaesthetic and antibacterial all rolled into one drink! trust me it works on most bugs!

there are many alternatives to gluten, rice flour makes great fat free sponge,
rice flout with baking powder makes great pancakes, yorkshire puddings,
corn flour or xanthan gum powder or potato flour make great sauce thickeners
rice flour, baking powder and xanthan gum powder mixed to a thick dough and flattened out in hot frying pan makes a great quick easy bread for dipping in soup, breadcrumbs, crutons and sandwiches.

rice cakes, gluten free oat cakes are both tasty alternatives to bread for lunches
Thanks for this!

I know someone who was diagnosed with ceoalic disease and it took a good few months before they started feeling better. It tooks a long time for the effects of gluten to leave your body after you stop ingesting it so hang in there.
