Let me explain the learning disability "LD" I live with every day. I have both expressive and receptive learning disability, which means I have problomes getting information in and out. I had great trouble with studies and interpersonal relationships (low self-esteem) all through school. I lived in horror that peolpe might find out and think I was stupid.

The only way I was able to make it though college and grad school was with tutors for every class. They would read to me and i would dictate my papers to them... so forth and so on.

I always held out hopes that once I was able to make enough money I would be able to hire an assistant to help with paperwork. However, that point never came I could not keep things afloat to that point. It's not that I can't do the work, it's that it's takes me 3 times as long if not longer. And we all know time is money. Another words I didn't have time to do the work to make the money to pay the bills. Then bipolar has to be factored in to the equation.

I am TERRIFIED about how I'm going to take care of myself finacially and I have been since I was able to understand the "LD"!!! I've lost jobs because I can't keep up with the paperwork. I feel so bad about myself and still don't want others to find out about the LD because I don't want to be know as the stupid one!

Hi Lostwords. I'm just seeing this now and my heart goes out to you. I am just curious, though, this may be something for you to consider. A lot of workplaces now (at least in my country) have mandates where they cannot discriminate on someone for having learning disabilities or any other kind of disability as long as they are able to show up and do their job. Might mentioning that you have it not work in your favor? Depending on the job, you may be able to get yourself an assistant to handle the paperwork with/for you. Again, just a thought. Not sure how it would actually play out. I hope things turn around for you.
