I'm considering telling my doctor I might be bi-polar. I never thought of this until I started Lamictal for depression and social anxiety, and this is the first medication I've tried that actually helps. One reason I think I might have bi-polar is sometimes I get very excited when I'm happy, to the point where I rub my hands together manically and have an urge to rock back and forth. I hide it from people, but I used to get teased in school for doing it.
I do not have problems staying awake, it's actually the opposite. I don't have all of the symptoms of bi polar, only a few... but I never considered it as my social anxiety and depression has been so bad, I don't get highs very often anymore. What do you think? Anyone with bi-polar that can offer advice? |

You could go to a psychiatrist and get a new diagnosis. Sometimes things are missed or the situation morphs. Maybe other meds would help. Tell the psych doc how well Lamictal is working.

Danny, I don't live with Bipolar Disorder (I have Major Depressive Disorder) but I was a member of a therapy group for people with mood disorders.
Other group members with Bipolar Disorder stressed that it is very important to get a thorough evaluation/assessment, preferably from a psychiatrist rather than a GP. Misdiagnosis of Bipolar Disorder for Major Depressive Disorder can have poor outcomes - anti-depressants (often appropriate for Major Depressive Disorder) can exacerbate the manic phase of Bipolar Disorder. The mood-stabilising medications for Bipolar Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder are usually different. After a psychiatrist has done a careful evaluation/assessment of you, s/he will (depending) be able to discuss medication options with you.
