The doctor is pretty indifferent considering risks. He prefers picc line mainly because I can do it at home ( hospital is risky since I can pick up more infections)
Said if something happens I can always go to ER.But I'd rather make a healthy risk - benefit assessment.

Benefits:
Faster treatment, because high dose antibiotics

Risks:
Picc line infection
thrombosis
Bad reactions (I suffered Herxheimer reactions from oral antibiotics)
possibly worsening a heart condition & affecting liver and kidney function
pains from the line itself (already struggling with pain management)

Since I don't know anybody personal who had a picc line inserted, I would appreciate feedback and experiences. Thank you.

I had a picc line 6 years ago when I had meningitis. I had it for two weeks I had no problem with it.

thanks. Mine would stay in up to a year, hence my concerns over risk of infections and thrombosis.

My friend had one and despite his very lousy condition he didn't get infected by it (he is very prone to infections). He had it 3 months.
