I tried just protein, but I got so hungry I overate carbs. I find I have to have even just a half piece of toast in the morning, or I'm craving something sugary. I once did just basically live off of protein, some nuts, barely any dairy and almost no carbs, my sugars dropped so low overnight I woke up in sweats. Balance is so necessary but so hard to stick to. Right now I'm craving a cookie. Bought some for my sons, but if its here, I'll likely get into it. I have no idea how my a1c's are fairly normal, because I'm not strict with myself and give in to temptations.

I was in a depressive state after leaving an alcoholic boyfriend 2 1/2 years ago. I lived on organic Smucker's peanut butter and coffee with whole cream. I couldn't bother with cooking and would only go out shopping every two weeks. I was like this for 3 months. Lost 35 pounds and had great numbers. Then I got happy again and began eating other foods. I haven't regained the weight though.

i've been wondering what times of day do people test ?? i almost always test first thing in the morning, before coffee even. i have no way of knowing if there is a 'morning spike' in my bls, but if there is, i'm getting away with some VERY low readings in the night. i typically have a nite-time snack, esp. if i had a small dinner. i have woken up in the night with bsl's in the 40's
![]() again with this doc,, he told me that GlipiZIDE will kill me in the night. O.O what kind of idiot does he think i am ? it's the LOW bls that are dangerous, and i've proven that my body wakes me in time, ALWAYS. it was worth the look on his face when i replied:"is there a better way to die (than in one's sleep)??? he apparently believes that any amount of suffering is better than dying. and i don't even talk about my spiritual beliefs with my PDoc, or he would toss me in the cannery quick as you please. aaaw, some days it all seems like a big joke,, struggling to stay as well as i am, not get any worse, getting worse in spite of that, knowing i'm going to be lucky if i don't die a blind amputee.... it's a wonder i don't eat toast and jam for breakfast (breaky). as for the high protein breakfast, even i can't bring myself to cook in the mornings,,,, but a couple of times i have scrambled a dozen eggs and put 3/4's of that in the fridge for an egg sammy in the morning. (do NOT freeze cooked eggs, they go all watery and yuk.) another thing i have found is 'Artisan Bread'. it's pricey, but it's nutritious. 100 cals per slice, i have to cut them in half and have small sammy's. still, one can not actually afford to cut out all the vitamins and minerals found in carbs~! another thing i have found, is that my system digests different carbs differently. it likes corn bread, and smashed taters, almost no spike at all, but give it bacon fat, and Watch Out ~! ![]() i think it's important to remember that every body is unique (mine is peculiar), and to try to get the docs to remember to prescribe for the person in front of them, and not the red dot in the middle of a Bell Curve (average person). i have been needing a place to post about my struggles with the diabetes. thanks all, for sharing. __________________ AWAKEN~! |

Glipizide? have you tried Galvumet? A mix of Vildagliptin; Metformin hydrochloride? It keeps my bsls level which is a miracle given what I eat some days.
The idea of a protein breakfast sounds good but i find myself sticking to toast and jam. Lately I have changed the bread that I eat to chia bread it too is exy but it is lovely. Today has not been a good day and my food choices have been bad. I don't dare have any kind of reading. And you are right Gus we are all individuals and do not come from the same cookie cutter. |

Glipzide, must be like my glyburide I'm thinking. It's supposed to take the sugar out of the blood or something. Big hugs to you Gus, I kind of feel like I've had similar struggles with my doctor. He doesn't really care. It sure seems so. I was so depressed I asked him once, what happens if I just stop taking the medicine. He basically, not even looking at me, said "you'll get dehydrated and die", as he continued walking out the door. I wasn't being stupid, but maybe looking for a doctor that actually cared, as I was explaining my high sugar readings and my shakes and sweating at night. Some days I think of my doc as an idiot. Venting can help. Today I only ate some soup and half sandwich, I don't know why, anxiety is making me lose my appetite I'm guessing, but I have to force myself to eat something soon.

I used to take glyburide an and then metformin. I voluntarily switched over to insulin injections.
I wanted ice cream today (I don't keep it in the house) and texted my daughter to bring some home from work (she is a pharmacy tech at Walmart). Then I texted her to forget about it. I ate some cream cheese instead. I would be fighting highs for hours with the ice cream. |

Yes! Frozen Cool-Whip is good!
I made Keto mug cake for the third night in a row. It doesn't raise my blood sugar crazy high. I like it. |

Hey Guiness, i like your signature. I love Johnny Cash. It's a painful song that has touched me. I remember hearing him when I was little, Sunday morning coming down is my favorite song
Anywhoo, I'm not testing my sugars but I did get low the other night. I ate too many cookies so I added an extra glyburide, not a good idea. Was ok, just sweating. But I'd be smart if I bought some juice for by the bedside. But, my boy was tested and there was concern for his blood sugars, so I don't buy juice often, he'll drink the whole frozen can or bottle. I'm just not able to eat right, I love my coffee lately but it's not good for my nerves. I'm noticing how much my mood is affected by my blood sugar levels though. I hope to get them to normal in the morning again. Take care everyone. |

Had to hit the insulin pretty hard today. I went to the county fair and I am a sucker for fair food. Back to the normal routine tomorrow. I also would like to learn how to make keto mug cake it sounds good.

Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a mug until melted (about 20-30 seconds), Add to the mug: 2 tablespoons almond flour, 2 teaspoons coconut flour, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (not hot chocolate mix!!!), 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar substitute (I used Pyure baking blend), 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1 large egg. Mix and microwave for 50-60 seconds. This is what I used the first two times I made the cake. My changes: I used 2 tablespoons of coconut oil instead of butter. The butter I have is salted and I thought it was taking away from the 'sweetness.' I used two tablespoons plus one teaspoon of almond flour. I used only 1 teaspoon of coconut flour because it has more carbs than almond flour, that is why I added the additional teaspoon of almond flour to the mix. Instead of using 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, I used 1 1/2 tablespoons. I added an extra teaspoon of baking blend (sugar substitute) to the mix. I microwaved it for 50 seconds. My microwave is 1000 watts. I can look up the calories, carbs, etc. if you need them. There are mug cake recipes online that use liquid sugar substitutes if you prefer to use that. The coconut and almond flour are sold at Walmart. They are a bit expensive but they last a while if you are only using a couple teaspoons and tablespoons. |

has anyone tried the Truvia or Stevia non-sugar sweeteners ? i used to use Truvia in my coffee (about the only place i use sweetener) but it had just a tad of after taste, so i would add a touch of raw sugar (i think it's healthier than processed white sugar). then i decided that was too much trouble and i just started buying the Stevia, which is Truvia with a touch of sugar in it
![]() they are not cheap, but are good for cooking and esp. if you like sweet coffee or tea. __________________ AWAKEN~! |

I like Truvia. It is stevia based. I like to use sweetener that has stevia in it.

I like stevia. I find I need more than I do with saccharin or nutrasweet.
